@bob I still see little difference between the #fediverse and email. If you're using their portal, or even an independent app using their instance, they can still read your contacts timelines, insert personalized ads into your timeline, and even into the timelines of your followers. If they run the instance, they can attach fedi accounts to email to ip and other identifiers.

The only reason I see for them not having done it already (a la #email, #XMPP etc) is a lack of current users.

If you have been joining the #Fediverse looking for #privacy, please consider that the far most applications and tools here are NOT build for that!

#activitypub is a #distribution protocol, NOT a privacy tool. And any bad-actor would be able to mine your feeds (listed or not) for #data. That is not your instance's fault or your admins! It's by design.

If you are looking for a real privacy considering flavor of social networking, get acquainted with #Hubzilla and #Zot.

PipeWire and WirePlumber have been a much smoother transition when compared to the multi-year fiasco of PluseAudio.

What lessons did we learn?

nvidia has been hacked and the hackers are demanding the drivers be made open source or they will leak the 1TB of data they managed to hack mine from nvidia
this includes DLSS chip ids and all that stuff

youtu.be/im9nFi79n8c?t=3638

my take on this
just buy an apu both amd and intel apus use mesa by default

at least with apus the only things you need to worry about is bios settings which kernel your distro is using and which version of mesa you have

f-droid's de facto complete lack of any sort of malware is literally more important than any theoretical concern imo

is it possible to sneak malware in if you really tried? yes

is there malware? no absolutely not

you go on google play and download a flashlight app and the top 20 results are all malware lol
sure f-droid has some pretty shit apps but none of them will infect your phone, and to be fair f-droid also has a handful of extremely high quality apps that you would have trouble finding otherwise
so idk, for the average user f-droid is just de facto higher quality apps, and confers more security just by being a little more tightly controlled by forcing apps to be open source (malware people will typically not want to make their shit open source. that's usually how it works)

it makes me happy that most steam deck owners have not even considered installing windows on it and are enjoying the stock OS

people are saying the fans get loud but it's only a matter of time before the homebrew apps like fan control show up on git repos

that's really the value of steam deck to me finally a console that does not require jailbreaks to do homebrew on it hell you can even play brutal doom on it without hacking the OS
no more paying MS for dev mode it's in your hands
