A killer feature for Mastodon would be the ability to browse other instances' user lists. It's hard to find people that aren't already federated.

@Korbaewai Or browse the local public feed of an instance without directly adding it to the federated feed of my instance or joining it. Just publically view the public stuff. Why is that now a thing?

@Korbaewai that's actually a positive part of the design as far as I'm concerned - if instances aim at a niche, then their local feed should be mostly relevant to that niche and the fed feed should be "fuzzily" relevant - it's a soft mechanism for communities to form with loose interaction
