@SteveRogers

“By inhibiting a candidate from using this critical source of campaign funding, [the regulation] raises a barrier to entry—thus abridging political speech,” Roberts wrote.

"Raises a barrier to entry."
Sounds to me like the opposite is true.
How many of us could start a campaign and whip out our chequebooks to 'donate' 260K in funding? This will deter everyday folks from even trying to run because they won't be able to afford it. Competing against wealthy candidates will seem an effort in futility.

Sounds like they are opening the door for more corruption of the political system, which seems to be a feature and not a bug when it comes to their rulings.

EU folks, the latest @EU_Commission proposal for scanning private communications and undermining end-to-end encryption is an extreme threat to privacy.

It threatens the right to meaningful encryption and would force your communications to be subject to scanning and classification by AI outside of your control. Truly dystopian shit.

This won't become law without the EU parliament's assent, so please follow this closely and speak up. See EDRI's analysis here:

I don't know if pacman is poorly designed or I'm just stupid.

When I uninstalled pandoc with `-R` it didn't uninstall the dependencies. I had to install it again before I could remove them with `-Rs`.
For some stupid reason there wasn't an option (or just wasn't one I knew) to remove the dependencies of a package I had just removed normally.

Nearly every time I try to find information on if sustainable farming has enough yield to feed current population levels, I just find assertions that it does without any evidence. An argument against it I find compelling is it would have to exceed yield of industrial farming. Industrial farming takes enormous amounts of nitrogen which comes from natural gas production. Sustainable agriculture wouldn't use that so where would it come from.

I don't know if there's a good counter-argument to this, I'm not an agriculture scientist. I just follow links.

"It is you who have no understanding of the history of slavery. Slavery was not considered to be abhorrent by the peoples of the world until the British ,as a matter of Christianity , principle and compassion made a concerted push to end it, against her own financial interests. Other groups had abolished slavery in parts of America in the late 18th century, but these were localised acts with no world repercussions . In 1808 the US abolished importation of slaves but did not abolish slavery. Slaves brought to the US after that were ‘contraband’.
In 1810 the British set up the West Africa squadron; its mission was to apprehend slave ships ,rescue the slaves and arrest and bring to justice the captains and the crew if warranted .
This cost the British people millions of pounds but more importantly ,cost the lives of around 2000 sailors and many more invalided out of the navy because of illness or injury. Britain had nothing to gain from this.
The squadron also patrolled the East coasts of Africa pursuing the Muslim slavers. These were the most cruel ,far more so than the European slavers. They castrated the men and thought nothing of slaughtering the slaves or throwing them overboard to stop the British ships from capturing them. British sailors often risked their lives to rescue these slaves.
Slavery was part of the social structure of much of the world and had been for millennia. Slavery in England had died out around the 12 th century and was in fact ruled illegal in England. Any slave entering England automatically became a free man.
Britain raised 20 million pounds from loans and bonds, a vast sum in those days , to buy the slaves and set them free. This debt was paid by the British people until around 20 or so years ago. Britain also spent hundreds of thousands of pounds bribing other governments to stop dealing in slaves. Britain forced Argentina to abandon the slave trade.
Britain abolished slavery in Africa ,the rulers of which were very loth to give it up. The king of Benin had become incredibly wealthy selling slaves and salt, the salt mined by slaves. He refused to give up slavery and had to be forced to do it. This pattern was normal though out Africa where the lives of slaves were held in no regard. When one African ruler heard of the approach of Henry Stanley ,searching for David Livingstone, his fame had gone before him and the tribal ruler slaughtered several hundred slaves in Stanley’s honour, much to his horror.
There were millions of white slaves held by Muslims and Africans also ,normally in atrocious conditions. In North Africa the white slaves were kept in a pit and worked to death, unless they converted to Islam.
The details of slavery were totally unknown to the average person or investors in sugar etc. Even the chairman of the Royal African trading company set in motion an investigation into the treatment and transportation of slaves.
Britain came into the slave trade and left early. British colonies using slave labour was nothing exceptional at the time , abolishing it was. Britain damaged her own trade by doing so.
This argument about Western historic slavery is stupid, it is like complaining that no one discovered penicillin in the 17th century, or criticising doctors for not having a cure for the Black Death in the 14th century. The world was a different place , no industry until the 18th century.
Your dismissal of ancient slavery is indicative ,you do not care about it because the victims were white..
I suggest your sympathy and compassion could be more productive if focused on the millions held in slavery today instead of what happened 200 years ago or more."

Why have I not heard of this?
