È il terzo romanzo di V.L. che leggo (dopo "Pantaleón e le visitatrici" e "Chi ha ucciso Palomino Molero?"): in tutti e tre sono presenti i militari, e in tutti e tre ci fanno una pessima figura: in "La città e i cani" e in "Palomino" attraverso situazioni di abuso violenza e delitto, mentre in "Pantaleón" sono messi spassosamente in ridicolo.

Ho da poco finito di leggere "La città e i cani" di Mario Vargas Llosa: un ritratto della vita in un collegio militare di Lima, con la città sullo sfondo, e dell'infanzia e dell'adolescenza di alcuni cadetti. Un romanzo di qualità per l'efficacia con cui descrive l'ambiente del collegio, e per la struttura complessa, con i continui spostamenti del punto di vista, tra presente e passato, tra terza e prima persona. Ma poco piacevole per la crudezza e la brutalità delle situazioni.

Like most dictators, Trump can easily weather broad sanctions on the US economy. But sanctions targeting his own companies and wealth will sting in a way that he cannot ignore.

And that is exactly what Europe should do: don’t sanction or impose tariffs on Minnesotan companies that share no responsibility for Trump’s policies. Sanction Trump’s own companies and bar them from the EU market.

Io non ho il minimo interesse per lo (e questo può anche essere un difetto). Ma di tanto in tanto mi capita di ascoltare qualche cronaca sportiva, e mi sembra un miscuglio di osservazioni banali e di metafore trite, il tutto proferito con un tono costantemente concitato che ha qualcosa di artificiale: ma non è noioso e insulso tutto ciò? A me è questa l'impressione che fa.

This will take 1040 weeks, so I don't expect to hear it all, and some of the musicians won't live to the end of it either. They are already training a new generation.
