a very big trigger warning... maybe

i can't fucking understand coding, too complicated for me, i don't understand how tf ppl can get into it... it's too fucking complicated for me to understand. yeah i'm in a computer science class or whatever, but only because that's what replaced my AV class, i never chose this shit, idfk how pretty much EVERYONE ON FEDI knows how to code in some way, i fucking can't, i'm the dumbest one here because of it...

a very big trigger warning... maybe

@VerdanuOsane Coding only seems that overwhelming at first.
As soon as you realize there's only four or so paradigms (logical, procedural, functional and object-oriented programming) and four types of looping (while, for, recursion, goto) it gets really simple.
the only thing left to learn about coding are certain language specific quirks like syntax or predefined calls

a very big trigger warning... maybe

@mario and that's what i can't do, and overwhelming, yes very, and i can't adapt to it, as for coding languages, i'll definitely lose myself in there easily. sure it may seem simple, but just this alone is already frustrating enough for me, it's one of those things that i can't get myself into, even if i tried, i can't

a very big trigger warning... maybe

@VerdanuOsane what is your computer science class about?
is it like the fundamentals of comuting or already something about a higher level programming langage?

a very big trigger warning... maybe

@mario idfk, this teacher doesn't clearly explain it, and i'm not gonna bother trying to learn it, i don't see an easy way to explain it

a very big trigger warning... maybe

@VerdanuOsane i want you to know that programming can be lots of fun once the basics are learned!
it's tough if the teacher is bad and doesn't give you hands-on examples early on.
If you ever want to try programming again, I can really recommend trying to do simple stuff in python (i.e. implementing an algorithm which prints out digits of π), maybe with a tutorial which walks you through the steps.

a very big trigger warning... maybe

@VerdanuOsane Also: There is an insane difference between computer science and coding projects.

a very big trigger warning... maybe

@mario either way, they seem blended a bit to me. still, i never asked for this, i just want to go back to AV, but unfortunately, the only teacher certified for that moved out, now i'm stuck with this... we still haven't found a replacement for him

a very big trigger warning... maybe

@mario and as for simple stuff, sure, but i don't have the will power nor the time to get into it, i have shit tons of other things to do, and trying to learn computers is not in my main priorities

a very big trigger warning... maybe

@VerdanuOsane that sucks... :blobcatsad:
i wish you tons of luck that a replacement teacher can be found soon!
ofc you don't have to get into coding! I just wanted not to let a bad computer science experience make you think coding is too complicated for you, because that's wrong! :hug:

a very big trigger warning... maybe

@mario thanx, if no replacement is found, imma have to drop the class for something else that's mildly more interesting to me, it's just coding is a thing i can't find interest in

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@VerdanuOsane its just math and logic problems written differently. you'll get used to it once you understand it better

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@pernia sure, maybe, but i can't get myself into it, even if i do get it, i don't see mysef doing it in the long run

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@VerdanuOsane that's ok. it could be useful though, so if you end up getting stuck with the class you should make the most of it. good luck! :hug:

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@pernia nah, i'm not sticking with it, imma switch it for something more my interest, i'm onlyy gonna stay if they find a new AV teacher soon, if not, imma switch the class

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@VerdanuOsane what's AV?

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@pernia Audio/Video

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@VerdanuOsane ah. yea that tradeoff seems terrible for you

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@pernia very, and since the AV teacher moved out, they replaced it with comp. sci., and i can't get myself into this, so i'd stay if they find an AV teacher or switch out if not

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@VerdanuOsane if it's hard, you only need better resources

even girls can do it, there's no reason to think you can't

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@fluffy i never said i can't do it because i'm a girl, i just can't do it because i can't get myself interested in it nor do i have the time to bother learning about computer stuff. i'm only in this class because my AV teacher left and we got this instead of a replacement teacher

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@VerdanuOsane wait, you're a girl....?

ew

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@fluffy well, a tomboy, but still, sure

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@VerdanuOsane i guess it's the sort of thing you get excited about when you realize how much cool stuff you can make with it

it's fine if the things you are excited about are not improved by coding, but, there's lots that is

most coding is really boring, programmers complain about it all the time

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@fluffy and i just can't see why ppl enjoy it, but that's them, not me, i'll just enjoy anything else non-coding wise

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@VerdanuOsane you can make cool stuff is why they like it

for example: https://github.com/adereth/dactyl-keyboard

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@fluffy sure yu can make cool stuff, but i just can't get myself interested in it, we clearly have different POVs of it, but i'd rather not, i just don't have time for it, especially living in a rural area where there's always things to do outside

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@VerdanuOsane yeah

wanna help with my keyboard hobby? i need help making super cool sexy sketches

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@fluffy eh, no thanx, i can't do realistic design, much less those with scale and shading, i just don't

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@VerdanuOsane oh....

even if you were bad, well, i am also bad, so i'm trying to learn because i think it is a cool thing...

it's kinda lonely i guess. well, i'm happy enough seeing your art :blobaww:

today or tomorrow i should have hh back up!

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@fluffy okie then, i just don't do concept art much, i've only done it once for a project, but that was it

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@VerdanuOsane i wish i was creative with art... it's so hard to come up with cool new ideas...!

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@fluffy the only new ideas i can think of are combining car brands and models, i only did the art once but nothing more after that, my skills have dropped since then... the only realistic art i had

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@VerdanuOsane but your art is really good...

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@fluffy *not as good as my Corvette ZR1 and Ford Raptor mix*

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@VerdanuOsane uh, lol? but its pretty good :blobcat:

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@fluffy thanx, i guess..... *now i go ball up in anxiety*

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@VerdanuOsane :patcat: :patcat: :patcat: i like it a lot

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@VerdanuOsane it takes a while to grasp the fundamental concepts. you have to be willing to ask questions, and be able to ask the right questions if you want to learn.

a lot of women don't like to code though. that's not unusual

re: a very big trigger warning... maybe

@meowski and that's the thing, i don't have the will power to learn it, i'd rather do AV, but that teacher moved out and we were stuck with this, imma switch when i can or go back to AV when we find a new AV teacher

@VerdanuOsane You aren't stupid or dumb. You just haven't had the right teacher. I've had good teachers. I've had bad teachers. Makes a world of difference.

It's true that some people are better at it than others - either due to interest, or abstract thinking, or whatever. But anyone can learn to do it to some degree.

Yes, you'll make dumb mistakes along the way. I've been doing it professionally for 20 years and I still do dumb shit from time to time. No biggie. It's a learning experience, just like the rest of life.

I get the frustration though. If you have a bad teacher or you're just not into it (nothing wrong with that), then it can be tough.

@furry i only do this class because it was supposed to be AV, but then that teacher left and i can't change it until this year's over, so if we don't find a new AV teacher by then, imma switch the class to something more in my interest, but if we do, i'll stay to do AV again. it's only frustrating for me because, like i said, i can't myself interested in computing and stuff
