@sri probably you misunderstood how this works: Twidere is a client for both Twidere and Mastodon (and others) and it has a lot of advanced features that other Mastodon-specific clients don't have.
Additionally, you can use Twitter and Mastodon accounts at the same time, you can have timelines with tweets and toots. You can choose to tweet or toot or both.
Using a Twitter account in Twidere doesn't limit your experience on Mastodon in any way, in fact I'm near 500 characters now.
@sri *for Twitter (not Twidere obviously)
@usr_local_share @sri yes, that's what I mean: of course Twidere act just like a client to both the network, it doesn't link them in any way. It just mix things from Twitter and Mastodon in the same UI.
@usr_local_share @sri yeah, I suspect because of very good Mastodon API
@alexl How do I configure Mastodon in Twidere? It's not obvious.
@iain add a new account and select "Mastodon". You need a recent version of Twidere. The one in F-droid is updated, I don't know the one in Play Store.
@alexl Aha! The Play version is out of date. Thanks for confirming. I'll use f-droid instead.
@alexl Official support, or is it still beta only?
@ink_slinger I don't use any beta version. I'm on Twidere 3.5.36.
@alexl Ah, I'm only running 3.5.13, so perhaps that explains why I don't have official support...time to update.
@alexl Oh, interesting, 3.5.36 is only available on F-Droid right now, not the Play Store. No wonder I was "stuck" on an older version.
@alexl How does it deal with 500char toots to tweets? Multiple tweets?
@alexl installed frol f-droid : works like a charm :)
@alexl aren't you simply catering to the lowest denominator? I mean now we're stuck with the low character count from twitter and none of the benefits of mastodon?
