GNOME has no thumbnails in the file picker (and my toilets are blocked) - new post on my website

@tromino Imagine a file picker that didn't list the file names, only its creation dates.

Imagine having to deal with pungent sewage smell every time brushing your teeth.

@anjum but how is lacking a thumbnail view so important that a file picker is literally broken if it doesn't have it, that's what I don't understand

@tromino Read the article. A file picker has one job, and it's to be able to search and pick a file. I an unable to find pictures with it. Arguing about this is like arguing with my sister that no, the toilets aren't fine, it fails and it's basic job.

@anjum btw I'm not saying that the option wouldn't be useful or that they shouldn't add it (even if I wouldn't use it personally), I just think you're way overreacting when you say that a file picker is unusable without it

@tromino Oh sure, and maybe I'm overreacting about my blocked toilets, cause hey—if you ignore a problem long enough you can get used to it, which my family have. This is my point, people have become so used to mediocrity that my expectation of a fully functioning file pickers is seen as overreacting.

@anjum I certainly don't see using a list-style file picker as a problem for me at all, not even an easy-to-work-around problem (which is why I don't think your analogy really works)

but again, I do think they should at least consider adding the option for the people who want it, even if they need to cross over some hurdles to do it (which they have used the "why would anyone want that" response in order to avoid dealing with technical problems in the past)

@tromino I can't think of any other modern file picker that doesn't have thumbnails. Not even on phones.

@anjum but I don't see how an icon view in the file picker would improve my life in any way

@tromino That's cause you're used to mediocrity and have accordingly shaped your life to avoiding the use case of needing to upload files. Again, basic functionality that in every popular operating system, particularly Android and iOS.

@tromino The reason why British cuisine sucks so much is because people here don't realise how good it can be.

@tromino So people accordingly and unconsciously shape their life to avoid the need to ever demand good food from restaurants and eateries.

@tromino So British people are like "why would I ever need something other than a fry up for breakfast", meanwhile my dutch friend came to the UK he was horrified at the hotel breakfast buffet.
