Bloggers should put a link to their feed in an accessible place for people to see. We should promote Atom/RSS more.
@m2m awesome.
@arh I think best practice is to add the meta tag to your markup so RSS readers can automatically find the feeds by using the site url. I also link to my feed page in my navigation but yeah.
@obsolete29 both should be done.
Yeah, but without a clear indicator that the website supports RSS one has to blindly shoot the URL into the reader and pray that it does something.
A cool thing would be to have a specific protocol string (like "mailto:" links) that RSS readers can respond to and just import the feed by clicking a button on the website.
@gabmus that is absolutely needed.
@obsolete29
@arh I miss the days when RSS feeds were easier to find.
@DarkWraithLord me too.
@DarkWraithLord @arh I remember back in the day when Safari had a blue icon in the url bar...
@arh It would also be really nice for folks to make sure their feeds are easily discoverable by feed readers by adding a "link rel" line, or lines, in their site.
@fahrni absolutely.
@arh is there a FOSS RSS reader that can sync between computer and mobile?
@mattbraddock I know there’s ones you can selfhost but one that has its own providers? Probably the best option is Nextcloud News app.
@arh Yes. Done 👍 RSS lives 😊
@roblen sweet.
@arh hence why I actually added an RSS page to my main navigation.
