Writing a small tool in #Python for private/internal use with an SQLite database. Is it worth learning and using #SQLAlchemy? I've never used an ORM before and it looks rather complicated. I already have things up and running just writing raw SQL with the sqlite module.
However, one of my favourite cities to photograph, has got to be the old quarter in York, England. cc/ @rosso

I joined mastodon and loved the generally friendlier atmosphere (which I realize has not exactly been everybody's experience here)
But the longer I've used it, the more I've realized how much I love the freedom from ads, trackers, and feed algorithms

Good article from LA Times about #earthquake early warning on the US west coast. I'm on the "upstream" sideโinstalling new monitoring infrastructure and maintaining/securing the data streams. Started feeling uncomfortable with Windows around 1996. Mostly because I couldn't change its looks. I had seen #Linux (Slackware) at a friends house and 1998 I bought a Linux book that had an accompanying #RedHat diskette+CD. I liked the philosophy and joined it technically.
#Microsoft was the bad guy. They used their own standards e.t.c.. I forced myself of that train.
Today I feel the same way.. but this time it is #Google. #Mastodon is an important ingredient to allow that switch...
I'm not much of a gamer so is there any other reason to have a high-end home PC? I can do pretty much everything I want to on cloud based systems; I just need a decent Internet connection and a nice display.
