Still haven't found a good online bank in Japan to invest some savings in domestic mutual funds.
All I want is a usable website and reasonable management fees, if it's not too much to ask. I don't mind using a Japanese-only service, it will be good practice.

@codewiz I can recommend shinsei bank for a normal account, I think they also do funds stuff.
I plainly store money on a normal bank account, because I hate capitalism and want to stay away from money as far as I can. Also, investing would make tax declaration in Japan even harder. I have to walk to tax office yearly, as I get stock from my company (could do it with etax online, but prefer to talk with these guys instead).

@globalc I remembered that I opened a Shinsei PowerDirect account when I just arrived.

I still have access, but if I go to investment trusts, it simply says "This function is not available now". No further explanation given 🙂

@globalc Ah, first I had to register the My Number, which can be done in the new design website.

@codewiz Correct, they record everything with mynumber. Also using money transfers did not work before doing that.
You seem to have done it online though, 3 years ago for me it had to be done in one of their stores.

@codewiz I am writing an article for the german 'Datenschleuder' (will also translate to english) about 'dealing with technology in Japan', and money stuff also gets mentioned.

@globalc Japanese banks are 10 years behind the US in terms of online banking, but I'm having a lot more trouble with Italian banks lately.
