fediverse meta, on growth and signups
i've said this in replies to people but never on its own, so here it is:
rethink the assumption that open, unmoderated signups should be the norm.
open signups are a tool for growth. capitalist platforms adopt open signups because they prioritize growth above all else. if you value fostering a healthy community, you *cannot* have 100% unmoderated signups. closed networks can control registrations by banning clients once. an open network cannot do this.
Which Programming Languages Use the Least Electricity?

I heard about the failed Biosphere 2 experiment long ago, didn't know it still existed in some form.
@chebra I took the Gapminder Test 2018 and...
You got 46 % right answers. 😅
But I'm happy to have failed, because it seems I was a bit too pessimistic about world literacy, life expectation and endangered species.
I got the question about vaccinations right because I had recently heard the positive news from the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation.
Now that YT knows that I have a fetish for parasites, I keep getting this horrifying stuff in my video suggestions...
Parasites are horrible and disgusting and... so fascinating.
@kai Brewing coffee is the sort of multi-dimensional optimization problem that engineers love!
But I'm a senior engineer, so I'm not going to play this game: you can't possibly win when you can't reliably measure the outcome, and there's no objective way to define the goal! 😉
Truth is, we're just addicts pretending to be chasing the magical exotic taste; when there's no other choice, we'd be glad to get our caffeine fix brewed in a dirty sock... or even Nescafe! 😱

Great playlist of #chipmusic for productive hacking sessions. Also for #c64 and #retrocomputing
If you use Matrix on Linux, you should check out this neat desktop app.
@kai It already arrived!!1
@kai It seems that hoping to pass one JLPT level every 6 months was highly unreasonable, given the estimated number of study hours.
