A "hybrid" course at #CHI2022 in which the instructor and all registered (paying) attendees were remote. Someone was guarding the door to make sure nobody snuck in to watch the Zoom session being projected to the completely empty room.


@mako ooph. Not sure how hybrid will be better at large confs if the in-person side is still in mega conf centres. those contracts promote concerns on attendance and recouping $$$ over more sensible decisions.

That said, I had a good experience virtually at hybrid events this CHI. The Material Ethics workshop (jenliujenliu.com/materialethic) was almost evenly split virtual/in-person for both organizers and attendees. Every activity was hybrid and well delivered! Glimmers of what it could be 🌱
