thanks Gargron for forcing us to actually fork your API, we have wanted to improve it for a while now. i am quite certain app developers will be pleased by what we want to do, as well.

"Structural Advantages for Software Developers to Leverage and Destroy"

> Free and open source software represents a post-scarcity methodology, but it does not fill our bellies or pay for our roofs; we do that for ourselves. Given the nature of our works, tech workers are in a unique position to call into question scarcity itself: if we can pay for our labor without paywalls, we can build post-scarcity systems.

@wakest

we have been working behind the scenes to raise funds in traditional way (grantwriting for example), and in tandem with efforts to bridge communities and websites negatively impacted by proprietary social media services (such as the MFC deal).

this hasn't been exactly any secret, as we have been talking publicly about finding ways to fund Pleroma development (and the development of surrounding apps) for some time.

the end game is to fund development in as much of the fediverse as possible, possibly including mastodon itself if there is a way that makes sense to do it.

(the other thing I can say is that if you’re working on a fediverse project, sign up for Open Collective. in most cases, this is how Pleroma Foundation will be handling the smaller $$$ distributions.)

constantly amazed that software engineering, this incredible labor-saving discipline, suffers from such a labor shortage that its most critical layers are maintained by volunteers

i just had to say that a painting of a bicycle on a street was an actual bicycle to confirm that i was human. so, i will never get in a self-driving car

Try watching some mundane documentaries or training films from the early to mid 1930s and then wondering wtf happened to all the people on camera when WWII rolled around.

I'm getting progressively more weirded out lately by watching ever-more recognizably modern motion pictures of one sort or another which contain ordinary people who are deeefinitely all long dead.

Another way to look at this: the introductory company training video is now nearly 100 years old - this one, for prospective telephone operators, was produced in 1926.

If any of the women in this AT&T film about the training process for telephone operators are still alive, they're at least 110 years old or so by now.

@TheGibson you ever notice that a raspi 0w is just slightly smaller than a standard US junction box like the one behind basically every two-outlet receptacle plate in the country? those ones with the single screw holding the faceplate on? weird, huh?
