earlier when I highlighted some of the trials and tribulations I've been through I feel like people may have gotten a better understanding of some things, but I want to also say a lot of good things have happened too.

and in general, I have found the fediverse to be a nice place to talk about things. I just wish that people would respect each other's space instead of interrupting their quiet enjoyment of the fediverse with unsolicited advice.

Pleroma had more developers at apconf than mastodon

The default (and assumed) mode for this PAM module is to validate YubiKey OTPs using the YubiCloud. Hell no, I don’t want to authenticate to my home system via some cloud service. I want offline validation using HMAC-SHA1 Challenge-Response authentication.

Well, Yubico never documented an example of this mode. Their documentation is scattered and incomplete. The GitHub repo for the PAM module is full of issues and PRs from years ago.

I pulled together the steps though and will list them here.

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yubico/stable
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install libpam-yubico yubikey-personalization
$ ykpersonalize -2 -ochal-resp -ochal-hmac -ohmac-lt64 -ochal-btn-trig -oserial-api-visible

(btn-trig is optional, but I like having to tap the button to allow the authentication)

$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure libpam-yubico

And provide these parameters:
mode=challenge-response try_first_pass

This will add a line for the Yubikey auth method, to /etc/pam.d/common-auth

I think the important think though is that everyone is more chill irl

I mean no one at apconf called us "pleroma nazis", in fact everyone was happy we came out there and were willing to discuss and experiment with making a better fediverse

The Driver's Privacy Protection Act prevents the DMV from selling your info.

Just kidding! It allows it, and DMVs are selling your info for millions.

Can somebody link me to the thread about the porn company that bought the porn doxxing board and burned the servers?

I think it's hilarious that deeperpockets dot com is a fashionable guillotine focus these days

I got on that site like 3 or 4 years ago in order to slowly infuse it with my Amazon referral links and I can confirm everything bad said about it

They sure buy a lot of crap on Amazon tho!! 😄

Noticed more sites giving out discord links instead of email addresses for questions and support.

DISCORD IS NOT A VALID ALTERNATIVE TO EMAIL.

@velartrill completely.

It looks symptomatic to me. Literally like a neurotic symptom. Like, we're run up against the intractability of capitalism, and we can't get anything fixed, or get our needs met, but the energy has to go somewhere, so it spills out into these purely symbolic cultural revolutions.

the absolute worst part of mastodon (the software) is that fucking fake progress bar that animates to 99% then does nothing for 5-30 seconds

The creator of pleroma is at #apconf but the creator of mastodon isn't

Same if you don't want a dog barking to wake you up to get fed. It's not rocket science.

If you don't want your cats waking you up for food, don't feed them right when you get up. Hello?
