@druonysus I don't see OSEM and GetTogether as competing, we serve very different use cases. We wouldn't be good for conference schedules, and OSEM isn't good for weekly meetups.
@GetTogetherComm I get that, but I definitely see an overlap in functionality. Honestly I would prefer one tool that allowed me to do both.
@lufthans @GetTogetherComm I've been wanting to go to SeaGL for a couple years now, but have yet to make it happen. I would love to find out if they already have anyone doing an openSUSE booth there... if not, I'd love to do it. I just have to make sure that I budget for it... and I have not budgeted to go this year either. I should just start planning for next year.
I might also just be thinking of all the OpenSuSE stuff at SCaLE.
SeaGL is great and I will continue trying to go every year.
The team organizing SeaGL really goes above and beyond.
One of the awesome things SeaGL is probably actually due to osem. I love the ~other talks at the same time~ links! I wish every conference had that.
Since there are already two OpenSUSE teams in GetTogether.Community, we can make create and org for them too if there's interest.
Orgs let you collaborate on multi-team events like release-parties or hackathons
@GetTogetherComm is would be perfect! Not only for the openSUSE org, but I would love to get LOPSA on to GetTogether too. We have chapters all over but we definitely want to have a global visibility of what chapters are doing and even be able to have our community manager help out in organizing, if need be.
@GetTogetherComm how do we go about collecting all the different openSUSE groups under one org? Do I need to just reach out to all the other organizers?
@druonysus I've created an OpenSUSE org and made you the owner of it.
Now any team page you view will have an "Invite to Organization" button at the top of the page, that will send the invite to the team's admins. If they accept, they'll be part of your org.
You can also create new teams for your org from the org's page, and any team admin who views your org page will see a "Join Organization" button that will send you a request to add them.
@druonysus When you create an event for your org, it can be global or location-specific. In either case it will email the admins of all of your member teams in that geographic scope to invite them to create an event for their team that will be part of your org event.
@GetTogetherComm thank you! this is great. I was looking for a way to make an org in the UI and I didn't see a way to do it. Is that functionality not exposed quite yet?
I added the SoCalSUSE team to the org, and though I got a little confused on how to do it, I was able to figure it out... but when I got the the opensuse-id team page I don't see an invite button for them like I saw on the SoCalSUSE team. Is that a bug or is there some step I am missing?
@druonysus There's not a public way to create an org yet. I'm not sure how I want to handle this, but I want to avoid a bunch of orgs being created with just one team.
