I really thought searching "white on black vs black on white" would return a ton of useful info on the accessibility of text on backgrounds.

Nope. Don't type those words into a search engine unless you're looking for very racially specific porn.

We already know that automated content filters don't work. They put absolute power over content in the hands of a system that is opaque and broken.

A couple of days ago YouTube took down all of the Blender Foundation's videos from the Blender Foundation's channel due to a copyright claim by... the Blender Foundation.

The BF is an official YT partner, but days later they still cannot get a straight answer from YT about what is going on:

Hello , I need your opinion again.

What do you recommend for self-hosting an own ? I'm aiming for something minimal and light and I really like the idea of just generating posts from files.

blot.im seems nice but I can't get it to work :blobshrug:

This would break the internet.

Imagine YouTube Content ID, but for everything: blog comments, tweets, Github commits, Instagram photos, replies to newspaper articles, rental listings, dating profiles.

This is being proposed in the EU. #Article13

If you're concerned about #Microsoft buying #GitHub (and you should be) please do not simply move to GitLab.com (the hosted #GitLab instance), it also runs on MS servers, (Azure) - always self-host GitLab, or if it's too heavy, go with Gitea.

Whatever you do, do not simply move from one silo to another.

Regarding #fdroid and #GDPR: You can find our terms here: f-droid.org/en/about/#terms-et

As F-Droid goes out of it's way to not only don't track you itself but also prevent others (apps, repo admins, etc.) from tracking you, we didn't need to change anything here. 🎉

USA Today made a version of their site for EU visitors that's compliant with the GDPR

eu.usatoday.com

Without:
- ads
- tracking
- personalization
- javascript

It seriously makes me want to check that site from time to time for news. If their point was "see how bad it would be if we didn't do all this stuff?" it's doing the opposite of what it wants because yes, I love this website, that's how I want it and every other one to be like

As someone with no FB account, the assumptions of social death often leave me a bit bemused.

I made an early fairly private choice that I didn't like the nature of FB. It wasn't a particularly technical or privacy related choice, but a kind of hunch-y ethical one. Something about the way MZ talked about it alerted me to something.

Absolutely nothing bad has happened to me as a result. I'm socially connected and totally OK.

I thought of buying a domain with my last name on it (for official stuff) but .net and the Finnish .fi are already in use :(

And I don't really like .com or the new ones, like .pro or .name.

What do you people think of using .org domain for a personal website?
