Ever since the fiasco started there have been some crazy things happening in British .

This is the craziest.

Dr Victoria Bateman is the Naked Economist. That is not a figure of speech. She is giving lectures entitled "Brexit Leaves Britain Naked", in the nude. She also gave a nude interview on BBC Radio 4 (yeah, yeah, I know).

No, I'm not providing any pics. For more info you can visit her Birdsite: (nudity)

If you've got any economics related puns for this story let's be hearing them.

Sorry folks...

I've just noticed that the previous post containing the embedded Tweet, shows the video preview image which is hidden on Twitter.

@fitheach It’s a interesting approach for sure. I read once that getting naked is the best way to get out of an unwanted fight. Completely freaks out the attacker.

Erm, I'll try to remember that the next time I feel threatened in the pub, I think. 😃

Her approach is obviously getting some media attention and will, no doubt, help future ticket sales. I doubt it will do much to change people's minds over the core issue.

@fitheach Let me know if it works! I favour the distract and run approach.

I'm not sure... I might prefer to take a punch on the nose.

Classic song about a bar room confrontation:

Gimme Three Steps
Lynyrd Skynyrd

@fitheach I was going to point it out but wasn't sure whether it loaded only after I clicked through out of curiosity :D

To be fair to her, I think any competent economist must understand we are living in an attention economy & that this would change minds to the extent that people who would not go to a talk about economics given by a clothed woman, might go to a talk by a naked woman. To change minds, they first have to hear you speak.

Anyway, as CW failures go this is at least an amusing 1.

I'd found her relevant Tweet, but hadn't clicked on the "View sensitive content" at the top. I then posted the link. It wasn't until my post had been boosted that I saw the video preview being displayed. My reaction was: "where did that come from?". Had I known I would have put it behind a CW.

She has certainly got people talking. However, I'm not sure it is about the economics of Brexit.

@fitheach @krozruch she does a good job, I feel. The absurdity of Brexit is now laid bare.

(I will show myself out)

She needed to get a few things off her chest (and everywhere else).

@fitheach Yeah, I suspect what it shows above all is that people of all kinds feel powerless right now. I wonder if a Cambridge-educated eonomics professor, if that is what she is, would have felt powerless before the vote, but still, that's my take away: a desperation to try to get people's attention to talk about what matters when so often, that isn't what's happening. Clumsy at best here, but not, I think, as directly harmful as many things we have been seeing.

I'm not sure if she is "Cambridge" educated, but her Twitter bio states she is a "fellow". So, she is, at least, taking a hand in running her department. Quite senior.

I'm not entirely sure what her politics are other than being a Remainer. I wasn't aware of her until now. I'm sure raising her profile was probably her intent with the naked lectures.

Some of the publications she has written for (Twitter bio) include CapX & Bloomberg. Not exactly bastions of left-wing writing.

However, I do sense some movements in British politics from left - right divisions to Leave - Remain divisions.

@fitheach @kawaiipunk

Pretty much everything she said is straight from the neoliberal political play book, with glaring inaccuracies in relation to reality of the global economy, this only has value as satire in word and deed.
