people who use “smart quotes” or smart apostrophes ’ on the fediverse are a cop

@sireebob people who use smart quotes or smart apostrophes in computer programming probably copied their code from a WordPress blog or Microsoft Word or something

@ben @sireebob Urgh... the worst case of that I've seen is still groff (the thing that makes man pages) replacing `-` with `–`.

I can at least sort of understand it for the general audience of word(press), but for frickin' man pages?

(It's been fixed about a decade ago, but not in macOS, because that ships a groff from 1.5 decades ago)

@hirnbrot @sireebob computer science papers written in LaTeX are also generally terrible if they include source code.
