A really good example of that was the Personal Democracy Forum earlier in the year, sponsored by those companies and promanently fearuring Google and Facebook speakers. It's hard to discuss what democracy means, or should become, in the internet era if Facebook is dominating the narrative.

Anyway I'm thinking joinmastodon.org needs to maybe have a little section explaining what free software means, because it's not simply "gratis"
Some people have chosen to use "libre software" to avoid the amiguity but, not sure why, but I don't like how that sounds.

"da OpenOffice und LibreOffice bei unseren Prüfungszentren sehr selten gefragt ist haben wir hierfür eine sehr beschränkte Anzahl an Prüfungsversionen. Seitdem die meisten Schulen durch Office 365 automatisch immer die neuste kostenlose Microsoftversion erhalten sind viele Schulen umgestiegen. Ehrlichgesagt empfiehlt es sich leider nicht den ECDL für LibrOffice einzuführen."
