Today I've stumbled upon an excellent resource by @[email protected] for those working in tech who are concerned about the environmental impact of the work we do: http://gauthierroussilhe.com/en/posts/convert-low-tech
And by happy coincidence it also just so happens to be #WorldEnvironmentDay
Thought-provoking piece from @[email protected]: "People could be allocated polluting credits to cover activities such as meat eating and flying that they can sell and buy in an online marketplace."
"This, then, is what a solution to the Labour party antisemitism crisis will have to look like, now that dialogue and conflict resolution have proved to be dead ends: an acknowledgment from the anti-Zionist left that anti-racist solidarity with those seen as despicable Zionist Jews must be unconditional. This is what I call “sullen solidarity” – and it is the most powerful form of solidarity there is."
Excellent article from Keith Kahn-Harris in yesterday's Guardian.
Quick fact check of The Today Programme on BBC Radio 4: Nigel Farage has NOT won "a crushing victory" in the European elections. These elections are proportional and form part of a much larger body. In no sense does winning about a third of the vote in the UK amount to "a crushing victory". I don't know why the BBC seem to do Farage's PR for him. #EP2019
"By now, all new homes should have been carbon-zero. It was a central policy of the Conservative Party’s green agenda a decade ago. But it was scrapped in 2015, months before it was due to come into force." https://www.ft.com/content/15e8d476-7bcd-11e9-81d2-f785092ab560
Oh. So it turns out the Brexit referendum wasn't the "largest democratic exercise in the UK's history". A claim made by many including our prime minister.
Hint: More people voted in the 1992 general election. It also had a higher turnout rate, as did other elections in the 20th century.
Merci pour cet accueil si chaleureux, @[email protected] Voici les diapositives de mon discours. 🌍 💚 #WordCampBdx https://speakerdeck.com/jacklenox/how-better-performing-websites-can-help-save-the-planet

As a recovering car enthusiast, this piece really strikes a chord with me. Perhaps more relevant now than it was when it was first written in 1973. http://unevenearth.org/2018/08/the-social-ideology-of-the-motorcar/
UX folk, read this now: https://www.shopify.com/partners/blog/sustainable-ux
In the wake of the racist, misogynistic, homophobic, climate change denying, literal fascist that has just been elected in Brazil, it's important to remain positive. So read this. yw https://www.greenpeace.org/international/story/18933/think-we-cant-win-on-climate-change-this-victory-by-dutch-citizens-will-change-your-mind/
Quite an uplifting read. How electric buses are cleaning up China's air quality issues. Electric buses have the potential to make a greater impact in reducing carbon emissions than electric cars in our immediate future. https://www.afr.com/business/transport/electric-buses-are-hurting-big-oil-and-helping-the-warren-buffettbacked-byd-20180424-h0z77j
Poignant final column from Jamal Khashoggi. While moaning on an almost daily basis about the incompetence of our Government, it's easy to take for granted this basic freedom of expression which is withheld from so many around the world. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/global-opinions/jamal-khashoggi-what-the-arab-world-needs-most-is-free-expression/2018/10/17/adfc8c44-d21d-11e8-8c22-fa2ef74bd6d6_story.html
Any response from the Government on the IPCC report that came out yesterday urging immediate action on climate change? Yep, @[email protected] is thinking about upping how many earthquakes a fracking site can cause before it has to halt operations...
