Just found a bunch of 19th - early 20th century textbooks for learning Japanese: archive.org/search.php?query=s"Japanese+language+--+Grammar" . This feels like finding a piece of history, especially considering the context of the era in regards to Japan. I wonder just how outdated the Japanese taught therein is - I don't believe the strucuture of the language has changed radically in 100 years, but the vocabulary might have.
