The above is a pretty good example for my recent Web log posting at https://ansuz.sooke.bc.ca/entry/365
"Analog VCOs usually have significant DC offset."
"Um... really? What are some examples?"
"Well, all the ones I have can be used as LFOs, so of course they have DC offset."
"Um... what does that have to do with it? Which oscillators do you mean? And how much offset?"
"The Dixie II, the Rubicon, and the E352."
"Um... but the E352 isn't even an... never mind. How much offset does yours have?"
"I'm not one for deep analysis, maybe it's a direct current, not an offset."

On this day 345 years ago, November 2, 1675, Feodosia Morozova died in jail. And we should care about why, because it parallels political conflicts that are relevant today. https://ansuz.sooke.bc.ca/entry/364

I always thought that "to fuck off" was intransitive and meant "to go away," as in "If you don't like corn dogs, you should fuck off." But in the last few years I've started hearing people use it in a transitive way apparently meaning "to make angry," where I would rather use "to piss off," as in "This new Web site design really fucks me off." Is this new, or is it just some kind of regional dialect I haven't previously encountered?
DMCA takedown notices are tactical, not strategic. Each one is issued without much research or planning as to its consequences. Any individual takedown notice doesn't reflect a big plan to "send a message" or do anything else; the strategic plan is to issue takedown notices *in general*, not specific ones at chosen targets. If one particular takedown notice ends up picking a much bigger fight than is usual, that comes as a surprise to the legal department who issued it.
