There are some really freaking cool people i'd never virtually meet had I not joined the fediverse.

Thank you all for being awesome. For every minor negative encounter I've had on here there have been literally hundreds of positive connections.

I'm still blown away that such a healthy social network exists.

Whenever you see a fad/As Seen On TV item and catch yourself thinking "ugh, is that really necessary?", stop and think: for whom /might/ that be necessary?

Fidget spinners help satisfy the stimming urge for autistic people.

Slankets/snuggies are lifesavers for people in wheelchairs and on bed rest.

That pre-peeled orange in the plastic container? Imagine your arthritic grandma trying to peel an orange.

Most of that "unnecessary" stuff has a use case - it's just not /your/ use case.

I have a really good memory for customers. If there's a regular at my store, chances are I know them by sight and name. But I'm very quiet and don't often use names even for friends/family. I just talk in their direction.

But I noticed people assume I don't know them. Even if I see them every day. And then they feel like I don't care, I'm just the person between them and their meds.

So I started greeting everyone I know by name this week. And WOW. I did not realize how much that meant to people, but apparently it's a lot and it completely turns those interactions around.

And I feel really good about it. It's nice making people smile a little.

#LibreOffice #sachezle

So my takeaways in learning from failure.

If you do #personalops (one person sysadmin) do what I just did. Spend a couple weeks clearing up tech debt, then spend some time figuring out MTTR and what steps you need to take to recover.

WRITE THAT 💩 DOWN!

Then do it to make sure it works as you have it documented.

THen, take a break because the above is a mountain of work.

Come back a few days later and install monitoring.

WRITE THAT 💩 DOWN TOO!

Test your backups and MTTR again

#LookingForWork

Full-stack developer, been working with the web since the 90s. #HTML, #CSS, #Javascript, #Python, #PHP, enough #Ruby and #Node to get myself into trouble. #LAMP is fine but other stacks are fine too; I'm a quick learner.

Any position is okay; I've been out of the office for a while and I''d be happy doing just about anything as long as the income is stable.

So, I'm moving to Hungary in ~ a month. Looking for short-term rental (1-6 months) prospects. Dog-friendly. Probably in Budapest or Debrecen (near-ish the Hungarian language schools in those cities), but potentially anywhere in Hungary.

Anyone have resources, suggestions, advice, etc? Köszi.
