This parent is now looking towards the sky with a worried frown.

I know people who think the concept of the digital nomad is sexy, hot and happening.
I... feel the exact opposite. Like running around and spending a lot of time and energy trying to settle in new places constantly while trying to do your job.
Maybe I am just getting old, but the thought gives me the creeps.

@WritingPrompts An increasing number of economists and political science start suffering breakdowns. A management guru discover ancient truths hidden in classical literature, and you, as a high school teacher with an MA in language and literature suddenly rise to fame in the management world.
You are praised bordering on worship for offering what you think of as trivial comment to everyday situations. Comedy follows - as well as tragedy.

Facebook put fake red dots to suggest you'd have new messages to rush you into agreeing to their tracking. It's time for companies to start value their users' right to privacy. That's why we ❤️ Mastodon. It has quickly become our preferred social media platform. Fighting for privacy is what we at Tutanota do every day: tutanota.com/#team

Mozilla has the "it's fast" argument down, now they need to double down on the "it's open".

Did you know that you can run your own Firefox Sync server? I didn't! Mozilla has a bunch of cool tools that many of their users have no idea about.

So many sites do:

“Here are cookie, advertising, tracking policies. Here is an OK button.”

After not clicking the ok button but attempting to continue:

“You must agree to our tracking policy”

That is explicitly not allowed/illegal under GDPR.

American companies including the Washington Post really have a damn hard time wrapping their head around that an agreement means you can decline to agree to it, and GDRP says refusing to be tracked is not grounds for a site to refuse service.

I'm literally sitting in a camper in the wilds of Montana using Termux on my phone with what could barely be called a data connection to ssh to a remote server to help a technician in India use a server in San Francisco to connect to another server somewhere else. You can't make this stuff up.

Protip:

When designing a user interface, imagine some old woman using it, say Margaret Hamilton, and she's clicking your app's buttons and saying to you, as old people do,

"Young whippersnapper, when I was your age, I sent 24 people to the ACTUAL MOON with my software in 4K of RAM and here I am clicking your button and it takes ten seconds to load a 50 megabyte video ad and then it crashes

I'm not even ANGRY with you, I'm just disappointed."

If I was to tell a story about a mad president and call him Crump, that would technically be an ad homonym attack.

My daughter just said, 'When I grow up, I want to build robots and be an artist.'
Proud of that child of the nerdshack.

Magritte on love -

La grande force de défense, c’est l’amour qui engage les amants dans un monde enchanté fait exactement à leur mesure et qui est défendu admirablement par l’isolement.

Nothing is as strong a defence as love, which allows lovers to enter into an enchanted world perfectly formed for them and where they are protected admirably by isolation.
