@bjarni

So it's been a few months ... what's your long(er)-term opinion on pleroma? Still running your own private instance, at home, thru pagekite? Is the tech mostly behaving?

How would you rate the set-up, and the on-going maintenance difficulty?

Danke

@nattiegoogie It's not as light on resources as I had hoped, and Mastodon provides a better user experience in subtle but important ways. So I'm vaguely dissatisfied, but not enough to switch.

Admin-wise, I have ignored my installation aside from giving it more RAM. Which means I cannot really comment on how hard it is to maintain, because I'm failing at even trying. It chugs along though!

If I could 'apt upgrade' it, it would get updated. Since it requires I learn a completely new tool-chain, updates just don't happen...
@bjarni @nattiegoogie So far, I'm very happy with pleroma. I would have appreciated some more documentation, but so Far I am running it selfhosted on this hardware: https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/odroid-hc1-home-cloud-one/ and I am very happy. It takes 200~400 Mb of ram to run a 3-4 people instance, and I like how it works. I only wish it was possible to make it run with sqlite and to have a better configuration panel instead of many config file to edit and copy.

So far, I am happy. My Bias: I think fediverse is more about selfhosting, I hate the idea of a single pod with 500,000 users, so this is the perfect solution for me.

@loweel @bjarni

Thanks, both of you, for the feedback. We're having a pleroma discussion on a forum I frequent, tildes.net, ... here: tildes.net/~tech/kyw/anyone_he

It's a nice forum, still a bit Beta, invite-only, but invites are widely available. Can I tempt either of you to join in?

@loweel, I'd prefer 100 servers with ~5,000 users each, but human nature seems to lean towards one end or the other.

@nattiegoogie @bjarni well... oh, god. yet another account with username and password.... why forum cannot be like the good old USENET?

about servers: I would like to put somewhere an image for Raspi, with a basic pleroma installed. So you put the image there, you power up, and it starts. The only problem I have is, you can't trust SDcards. So the database cannot stay there...
