the pentangle is a user on mstdn.io. You can follow them or interact with them if you have an account anywhere in the fediverse. If you don't, you can sign up here.

.@Blender's videos on #YouTube have now come back, but they are also being told by Google/YT that they HAVE to monetise them. #Blender are considering refusing, which presumably would mean the videos being taken down again:

blender.org/media-exposure/you

Whatever they once stood for, #Google's aim now is exploiting their users' content for maximum profit.

If you don't want your videos to be exploited, it is important to switch to an independent alternative:

joinpeertube.org/en/

#DeleteYouTube

@switchingsocial @Blender PeerTube looks really great, but so far watching HD video has been slow on every instance. I also wonder if the issue of exposing IP addresses can possibly be addressed

it’s still in its infancy, but I’d love to start following some content creators if I find any

@pentangle

Have you tried watching the Blender instance at @blender ?

(At least for me, the Blender instance seems to work pretty well. But yes, some instances are very jerky.)

There is still a lot of work to do on PeerTube (hence their crowdfunding kisskissbankbank.com/en/projec ) but the Blender instance seems to work well enough to provide a real alternative to YT,

About the IP issue, the developers are discussing various options here:

@switchingsocial @blender I have actually.it’s still slow, but I really think it just needs work. PeerTube itself really feels unfinished, because it is lol

the biggest concern is that of privacy, so I’m happy to see there’s some discussion going on. it’s such a great idea overall so I’m really excited to see it go forward
