When Disney bought Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox, they neglected to do something: pay royalties on contracted works as part of the sale.

@sohkamyung Lucas already had unpaid contracts lying around - Karen Traviss, who single-handedly created the Mandalorian civilization before they destroyed it in The Clone Wars, hadn't been paid for 6 or 8 years when she quit writing Star Wars.
