The release of the Sony Playstation is now closer in history to the Apollo 11 moon landing than it is to today.

dairy companies here really added a plastic screw cap to their cardboard cartons, just to a couple of years later remove it and go "look how environmental we are, we removed this much plastic from our packaging"

The homemade OPL3 sound card lives! Although it is a bit glitchy and jittery. I haven't yet figured out if that's a problem of my microcontroller code, my butchered adplug code, or just a serial connection being too slow.

I have a bunch of YMF262 (OPL3) and their corresponding YAC512 chips. Also some microcontrollers. How do I wire these together to make some noise? I managed to replicate the example circuit for connecting them together from their datasheets, but after that it gets into analog audio land which I have no idea how to implement.

state of the US

This time in US history is going to be referred to in the history books in the same way as the state of Europe before the first world war broke out. "It was only a matter of time before XYZ happened" etc etc. I don't know what that event will be of course, but (perhaps pessimistically) I don't have high hopes that the tension will de-escalate either.

Not referring to any specific recent event by the way, this is just the general vibe I get from an outsider perspective.

Anyone know something about dealing with a sticky wood surface? This desk was treated with some sort of oil (don't know what) around 20 years ago, and the surface is sort of sticky, making it unsuitable for use as a desk. It's pretty dry-feeling, but anything left on the desk sticks to it before long. Sandpaper gets instantly clogged up when I try to use it. What should I do to make it nice again?

jesus fucking christ. if this study truly is accurate, if we shut down just 5% of the worst offending power plants across the globe that would reduce the carbon output of electrical generation by 75%
