While visiting the Smithsonian Space Museum in DC, I spotted something I had never seen before: the console of the mythical Apollo Mission Simulator.
It's the first "multiplayer game", running on mainframes, flight computers and other ground equipment networked across multiple buildings.
Nailing a moon landing on the first attempt required months of training and rehearsals from everyone involved.
The "malfunction insertion" keypad allowed testing various scenarios which required quick reactions from the crew and the flight controllers. #space

Though this principle does not apply to technology commissioned from the private sector, even when it's 100% paid with public money :-(
