@progo It seems clear that obesity isn't really just one thing, so what works and what's a problem for one person isn't going to be the same for someone else. Weight Watchers is one of those things - it works for some and not for others. (Much like Alcoholics Anonymous.) What I find really interesting here is the abandonment of the original mission, and glossing of that as some sort of *return* to the true mission which was previously misunderstood. That's part of a larger pattern.

@progo If someone believes that "lose weight" is not a good goal to have, then maybe that person should not be CEO of Weight Watchers. If the organization itself believes that, maybe it should shut itself down. Saying "Actually our *real* goal is social justice for fat people" seems like not a good way to go. There are other organizations for that.

Worse if they'd been a charity, of course. As a for-profit corp it's understandable they'd go where the profits seem to be.
