Rumours circulating that Theresa May has cancelled tomorrow's vote on her #Brexit deal.
To clarify:
Theresa May is to make an emergency statement to parliament later today (10/12/2018).
Speculation is that, due to overwhelming opposition to her deal, she will cancel (postpone) tomorrow's vote.
Nicola Sturgeon calls Theresa May vote cancellation (postponement) "pathetic cowardice".
BTW
PM cannot cancel/postpone the vote herself, it needs a vote in parliament. There is always the possibility she doesn't win that vote.
In summary (so far):
PM Theresa May saying she will shelve vote so she can renegotiate with EU. Timing of new vote not specified. Specific cited problem area: Northern Irish Backstop.
Rumours from EU: substantive changes in withdrawal agreement not possible.
According to John Bercow (Speaker) it is possible for Theresa May to unilaterally cancel the debate/vote that was scheduled for tomorrow.
That being the case #Labour should have joined with other opposition parties to push for vote of no confidence in Tory govt.
Allowing more time for PM to renegotiate, allows May to "run down the clock". There will be no time left for alternatives. It'll be May deal or no deal. Cancel #Article50 possible but unlikely. #PeoplesVote is likely dead.
