@mntmn shiny! Can you use backlight as indication? Eg. '#' turns red if you have unread messages on IRC, and green when someone DMs/pings you?

The OLED is another prime candidate for these sort of notifications. @vkoskiv is working on something called refmon which allows doing this easily as a daemon.
